Pera

Privacy Policy

Last updated 2 October 2026

Pera is an app for couples. What you write in it is personal, so we collect as little as possible, never sell it, never show ads and never track you across other apps or websites. This policy explains exactly what we store, why, who helps us run the service, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Jan Czarnecki, Krawiecka 8/18, Wrocław, 50-148, Poland ("we", "us"). Contact for anything about your data: support@getpera.eu.

2. What we collect

Account: your email address, used to sign in with a one-time code.

Profile: the name you choose, your birthday if you add it, your time zone (so the daily question arrives at the right time and your partner can see your local time), your reminder time, and the dates on which you confirmed your age and gave consent.

Your couple: a one-time invite code (stored only in scrambled form and deleted from use after an hour), your couple settings (for example your anniversary, long-distance mode, the date of your next visit, special dates you add, spicy mode) and whether your couple has Pera Plus.

Check-ins: hearts, nudges and the mood and "could use" notes you send to your partner (hearts are counted per day, because the free plan includes 15 a day).

Feedback you send us: your message, its type, an optional screenshot, whether we may email you, and technical details attached automatically (app version, phone model, system version and the screen you came from). If you report something your partner sent, we also keep which item you reported.

Crash reports: if Pera stops unexpectedly, the error and where in the code it happened are kept on your phone. The next time you open the app we ask whether to send them; nothing is sent unless you say yes, and they never contain anything either of you wrote. Pera has no crash-reporting or analytics SDK.

What you create: Daily Duet answers, guesses and ratings; letters in Surprise Drops, with any stickers and photos you add, and when they were opened; Side Quest memories (a note, optional photos and stickers — each of you can add your own side to the same memory); which of this week’s quests you shuffled past; cards you save; the dates of your Date Night sessions and, in two-phone games, the choice you tapped on each card (kept with the game, hidden from your partner until they have chosen too); your check-ins. This content can reveal personal details about your relationship and how you feel.

Purchases: if you subscribe, Apple or Google process the payment. We receive only the subscription status, product, dates and an anonymous transaction reference through our subscription provider. We never see your card or bank details. When you start a trial or subscribe we keep a record of the price, trial length and terms that were shown to you, the box you ticked to accept automatic renewal, and when you agreed, as consumer law expects. We also send two emails to the address you sign in with: a confirmation with the full subscription terms when a trial or plan starts, and a reminder before a yearly plan renews. They never contain anything either of you wrote.

Plans and badges: date nights you ask for or agree to (a title, an optional idea, a date and time, and the answer), and the badges your couple has earned.

Special dates: an anniversary or birthday you planned something for — what you planned, the time, and afterwards a photo and a line about how it went.

Notifications: if you turn them on, a push notification token for your device and your reminder choices (which dates, how early, what time).

Your Activity list: a short line for each thing that arrives for you (for example "Jan answered today's Duet" or "A letter arrived"), the kind of event, when it happened and whether you have read it. It never contains anything either of you wrote. It is created whether or not notifications are switched on, so nothing is lost when they are off. The app shows today’s and yesterday’s, and the server deletes each line after three days.

Sync points: how many cards you played in a game night, the points your couple scored together, your longest run of matching answers and whether you finished. Points belong to the couple, never to one of you.

App lock: if you turn on Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint unlock, your phone checks it. Pera never receives or stores your face or fingerprint data.

Distance (optional, off by default, and only if you BOTH switch it on): your approximate position, rounded to about a kilometre before it leaves your phone, taken only while Pera is open (when you open it, and about every 30 seconds while the Today screen is showing). We keep one reading at a time — the newest replaces the last, so there is no location history, no map and no record of where you have been. Your partner is never shown your position, only the distance between you, and only while you are both sharing. It stops the moment either of you turns it off and runs out by itself after 30 days. Each of you can see when the other last had the distance on screen — a single time that is overwritten, never a count or a history. Your phone never sends anything to your partner’s phone when you move; each phone only works out the distance for itself. Pera never asks for background location.

Technical data: our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address, time and type of request) to keep the service secure and working.

We do not collect your contacts, advertising identifier, browsing history or health data, and we do not use analytics or advertising tools. We do not collect your location unless you and your partner both turn on Distance, and even then only as described above.

3. Why we use it, and on what legal basis

To provide the app you asked for (creating your account and couple, showing your content to your partner, reminders, subscriptions): performance of our contract with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).

To store and share with your partner the content you create, which may reveal details about your love or sex life: your explicit consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a)). You give it when you start using Pera and can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account. Withdrawing does not affect what happened before.

To keep records of purchases as required by tax and accounting law, and to send the subscription confirmation and renewal reminder that consumer law requires: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).

To keep the service secure and prevent abuse (for example limiting failed invite-code attempts and how many notifications can be sent to a partner): our legitimate interest in running a safe service (Art. 6(1)(f)). These technical records are kept for up to 30 days.

To read and act on feedback you send, fix bugs and improve Pera: our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f)). We contact you about it only if you allowed it. Feedback stays linked to you while your account exists and is kept without your name after you delete it.

We never use your content to train AI models, for advertising or for profiling.

4. Who can see it

Your partner: only the things the app is designed to share with them (for example your Duet answer after they have answered too, drops once they are opened, quest memories). Nobody else in the app can see your data. There are no public profiles.

Service providers who process data on our behalf, under data-processing agreements: Supabase Inc. (database, sign-in and file storage; servers in the European Union), RevenueCat Inc. (subscription status), 650 Industries Inc. / Expo (delivery of push notifications), Resend, Inc. (sending the subscription confirmation and renewal reminder emails), and our email provider (sending sign-in codes).

Apple and Google handle payments and deliver notifications as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.

We may disclose data if required by law. We never sell or rent personal data.

5. Transfers outside the EU

Some providers are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, it is protected by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. How long we keep it

Your distance reading is a single row that is overwritten each time, deleted the moment you stop sharing, and deleted automatically when a 30-day sharing period ends. Nothing about where you have been is kept.

Your Activity list is kept for three days and then deleted automatically. Technical records kept to prevent abuse are kept for up to 30 days.

We keep the rest of your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile and everything you created are deleted immediately from the live database; encrypted backups are overwritten within 30 days. Records we must keep by law (for example about purchases) are kept only for the legally required period. If you leave a couple, the couple is closed; when both partners have left, all shared content of that couple is deleted.

7. Your rights

You can access, correct, download (portability), and delete your data, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time.

In the app: Settings → "Download my data" gives you a copy of everything we store about you; Settings → "Delete account" deletes your account and data. You can also email support@getpera.eu. We reply within one month.

You have the right to complain to a data protection authority, in Poland the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, UODO), ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw (uodo.gov.pl), or the authority where you live.

8. Age

Pera is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from younger people; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our hosting provider. Access is restricted by database rules so that each person can only read their own couple's data. Photos are stored privately and shown through short-lived links.

10. Cookies and storage on your device

The Pera app does not use cookies, advertising identifiers or tracking technologies. It stores on your device only what is strictly necessary for the app to work: your sign-in session and your settings. Under the EU ePrivacy rules this does not require consent.

The Pera website does not use cookies or analytics.

11. Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
